You’ve been saying for days, weeks, months, years that you want to get in shape, change your life . . . really live, and that you were going to start taking care of yourself beginning next Monday, next month, next year.
If you are truly serious about transforming your life and your body in 2014, you will do this right now:
Go to your kitchen and throw out every single thing that is not healthy.
Don’t tell yourself that you ate your fill today and that there is no way you are going to want that stuff tomorrow. It’s not true. How many times have you told yourself that in the past?
It hasn’t been true every single time you have told yourself this in the past and it’s not true right now.
Go ahead. I’ll wait.
Get a brown paper sack and go to your pantry – throw out the sugar-filled cereal. Throw out the canned cream corn, the baked beans, the boxed mac and cheese, the pancake fixings. The cookies that you got for the kids – yeah, right.
Now your refrigerator. Throw out the leftovers from last night’s Chinese food or this past weekend’s pizza.
Open the freezer door. Throw out all the ice cream. I don’t care if it’s Ben and Jerry’s. I don’t care if it’s Haagen Dazs. Out. All of it.
Countertops are next. Do you have cookies or cake? Out. Fudge that you made yourself? Trash. Now.
Any type of food that you KNOW are your triggers. Be totally honest with yourself. You are only hurting yourself if you aren’t.
Yes – you are throwing out perfectly usable food. So what? Aren’t your health and your mental well-being more important than $20 or $50 or $100 worth of food? Aren’t you more important?
If your answer is no, maybe that needs to be addressed with your coach.
Is the bag full now? Take one more look around. Is it all in the bag?
Good – now take it to the trash can outside.
The outside garbage can. Open the outside garbage can up and pour it all in there . . . out of the brown paper sack.
Do not leave anything in that sack that you might go back and get tomorrow afternoon. Don’t laugh. You know it’s a possibility. How many times have you done it in the past?
Don’t count – it doesn’t matter. The past is the past.
You don’t live there anymore.
OK.
Done?
Good.
Now go back inside and make your Win List for tomorrow.
Five things that absolutely have to be done by the time you put your head on your pillow tomorrow night to get you closer to the long term goals you have already set for yourself.
Do the prep work for those 5 things. What absolutely has to be done to get your feet moving the first thing when you get up in the morning? Do them.
Tomorrow, spend your time thinking about those things instead of what you have chosen to give up for a while.
Spend your time thinking about what you are going to accomplish, what new things are going to be brought into your life because you have decided to move forward.
Think about what it’s going to be like next New Year’s Eve when you have met and exceeded all your goals for 2014.
Concentrate on what you are moving towards.
Are you serious?
Only you know the answer to that.
It’s your choice.
Only you can do the work.
Are you serious?
I hope you are.
I know you’ll be happy sitting here a year from now if you are.
